Hello Techno Educators!!!! I can smell the Spring in the air. Spring break is just around the corner!!!
I recently watched a cool video created by Bill Gates and the Founder of Facebook called "What most schools don't teach". The video talks about how the high tech industry will create about 1.4 million computer jobs in the next decade but PROJECTIONS show that only 400,000 qualified college graduates will apply. Now I bet you are thinking why is there such a large gap between number of jobs created and the number of graduates applying? Many might say, well you have to be smart in order to learn how to do computer coding. The answer is no!!! If you can read and do basic math YOU CAN CODE!!! After researching this problem, I concluded that STUDENTS ARE NOT GETTING THE PROPER TRAINING IN HIGH SCHOOL. Students are trained to focus on the basics academics such as Math, Science, English, and History. Many states requires students to pass state exams in order to graduate!!! "GIRLS DO RUN THE WORLD" but Technology runs the world as well. :) Technology does not have to be just the simple computer (typing ) class, which is BORING!!!! Students should focus on how to create codes for their computers and make the computer type out their assignment. You tend to see students who are between the ages of 5-12 say that they want to be a teacher, firefighter, a police officer, a doctor, or a banker. Where are the students who want to be a computer teachers, computer programmers, or network specialists? WE as technoeducators should work to get our students caught up with the rest of the world. We should be advocates for technology and assist in making the next generation ready to become the next BILL GATES!!!!! Check out the video here!!! Chat with you later TECHNO EDUCATORS!!!
