23 of my technology students were selected to attend Ericsson's ICT Girls day with Former First Lady Baraba Bush. My students spent a day at the Ericsson's corporation in Texas. The campus was absoutley beautiful. The employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. During our stay at Ericsson, The girls were treated like celebrities. My students were able to test out new technology in the Ericsson Experience center. The girls were able to have a Q and A session with top Ericsson executives women. The students were also able to meet Former First Lady Laura Bush and take a professional pictures with her. The Ericsson's Girls in ICT day was amazing! My students learned a lot of new ideas regarding information communication technology. This was by far the best field trip.. EVER. Here are a few pictures from our trip.

School is almost over!!!!!!!! Summer will be here before we know it. How can we keep our students engaged during the summer time? If we as educators can continue posting(class blogs and websites) intriguing questions during the summer, we can keep our students minds churning. We can keep the line of communication open with parents as well. Learning does not have to stop during the summer. Remember learning does not have to be in a brick and mortar classroom. Here are 5 tips to keep your students learning during the summer break. You can even give your activities-Technology summer school. Teachers THE BEST part of these tips are that you can collaborate with your students while sitting on the beach!!! ;) 5 Tips to keep students learning during the summer... 1. Start a book club and collaborate online. 2. Create a #summerchat on twitter with your students. 164 character word collaboration. 3. Keep updated materials on your class website for students to view. Make it relevant to your classroom. 4. Create a new blog post every week pertaining to a new event that happened in the news. You can call it.. "NEWS you can absoutley USE. 5. Give extra points for students who participate in your "technology summer school". #rockthecore2014 This is a cool video on the uses of google in education tools. Now I am a team apple but I do love google education tools http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uXFUl0KcIkA&feature=youtu.be I was strolling through my TL on twitter and saw this cool picture of the evolution of technology. It inspired me to blog about it. This picture illustrates how technology has evolved from the beginning of school to what it will look like in the future. I totally agree that students will only carry a tablet instead of their book bag full of books in the near future. Many schools in the USA have implemented 1:1 initiatives. I can't wait to see when Schools will have no need for paper and pencil. I predict textbooks will be obsolete by 2020. In learning magazine predicted this and I totally believe it's coming. Flashback: When I was in school.. There were no iPads, tablets, laptops, or smart phones. I never would have thought technology would have flourished so far. I've always been a techno girl, I always wanted the coolest technology that was out. I remember begging my mom for a pager. I was the student who had the different color pagers or the cool flip phone. I can't wait To see what the future has in store. I can not wait to see what technology start up company invents next. I was insprired today y'all (in my southern accent)!! I am so excited to write this post! I was inspired by my colleague who is an art teacher. By the way, Ms. Gore is so creative and has such a great personality. The students in her classroom learn more than just ART. She makes her activities fun and engaging. Well How did my inspiration come about?? This all began when Ms. Gore came to me for ideas on how to integrate technology into her art classroom. She wanted to begin using IMACS as a center in her classroom. I thought, this was such a cool idea. Well she came to the right person! (I am the techno girl) I put on my techno cap and started researching. I found a video on www.theteachingchannel.org called Graffiti Art. I went to Ms.Gore's classroom and we began watching the 10 minute video on how students used their Digital identity to create Graffiti art in an Art II class. We immediately became inspired. This teacher in this video used a real world experience to teach how to draw Graffiti. This video insprired Ms. Gore to write a grant requesting funds to purchase IMacs, furniture, and printers. I was also insprired to incorporate Art in my digital design classroom and to use Graftiti Art as an assignment. I hope you get insprired to use Art in your classroom like we did.
